Citation Mustang
Entry-level Citation very light jet — single-pilot certified
Overview
The Citation Mustang is Cessna's entry-level very light jet and remains one of the most approachable ways to move into Citation ownership. Produced from 2007 through 2017, the Mustang combines simple systems, single-pilot capability, Garmin G1000 avionics, and low operating costs in a compact Citation package. 479 were produced.
Published performance numbers show a max cruise speed of approximately 340 KTAS, a service ceiling of FL410, and maximum range around 1,150 nautical miles under favorable conditions. In real-world ownership, buyers should think of the Mustang as a highly efficient regional jet, with practical passenger missions often falling closer to the 500–900 nautical mile range depending on payload, reserves, winds, temperature, and routing.
The Mustang's cabin typically seats four passengers in the aft cabin, with two pilot seats up front. Baggage capacity is a strong point for the category, with approximately 63 cubic feet total between internal and external compartments. Standard Garmin G1000 avionics can be upgraded to G1000 NXi, and the desirable High Sierra edition added upgraded interior appointments and avionics features.
For owner-pilots and small flight departments, the Mustang's appeal is straightforward: Citation reliability, jet performance, simple systems, low fuel burn, and access to the support network behind the Citation family. It is not the fastest or largest Citation, but for the right mission profile it remains one of the most efficient and enjoyable small jets in the pre-owned market.
