Citation M2
Modern entry-level Citation in the 525/CJ family with Garmin G3000 avionics
Overview
The Citation M2 is the modern entry point into the Citation 525 family, combining the proven CJ platform with Garmin G3000 touchscreen avionics, FADEC-equipped Williams FJ44-1AP-21 engines, winglets, and a more contemporary cabin. It is best understood as the modern successor to the CJ1+ rather than the Mustang, although many buyers compare the M2 against the Mustang when evaluating entry-level Citation ownership.
Published Textron performance figures list a maximum cruise speed of 404 KTAS, a maximum range of 1,550 nautical miles, and a service ceiling of FL410. In real-world operation, many owner-pilot and business missions are better planned in the 1,000–1,300 nm range depending on passenger load, reserves, winds, temperature, routing, and climb profile. In normal cruise, the M2 is a 390–400-knot-class airplane.
The M2's Garmin G3000 flight deck is one of its biggest advantages over earlier CJ/CJ1/CJ1+ aircraft, offering a cleaner cockpit layout, touchscreen controllers, integrated systems, and modern situational awareness. The Gen2 platform added cabin and cockpit refinements and introduced Garmin autothrottles on later aircraft, while the M2 Gen3 adds Garmin autothrottles and Emergency Autoland as standard current-generation features.
The cabin uses the familiar 525-series cross-section — approximately 57 inches high and 58 inches wide — with an 11-foot cabin length. Typical seating includes a forward side-facing seat, four-place club, and aft belted lavatory, allowing up to seven passengers depending on configuration. Baggage capacity is approximately 46 cubic feet with a published weight capacity of 725 pounds.
For buyers, the M2 is attractive because it delivers modern avionics, 400-knot-class cruise, single-pilot certification, and Citation support in a newer, more refined package than the CJ1+. It is especially compelling for owners who want the efficiency of the CJ1/CJ1+ with a far more modern cockpit and cabin.
